Rest day

After 4 continuous days of riding, I thought it prudent to stay off the bike today. While it took some effort to not go riding, a bit of a cold that I am picking up and the itchy pain in my legs assisted with the decision. At the moment, I am grateful I didn’t ride. Especially after yesterday’s ordeal. Read more on Rest day…

The 100km that wasn’t

I wake up at 3h30 to get ready for the 4h30 ride. No sms from Sean, so I sms him. He gives me some girly excuse about a cold or some other rubbish. Luckily, Dereck was still keen and let me know when they were climbing my local hill. He was joined by two chicks, and already I started thinking this was going to be a nice and easy ride. I was so wrong. Read more on The 100km that wasn’t…

Health Check

I just did one of them Discovery Vitality health checks. Since I’ve been lazy and fat this year, it’s been a bit of a struggle to get to the required 45000 points to keep Gold Vitality status. One of the things I hadn’t done this year is one of these health check things. A bit worrying since I’ve mostly been drinking and not exercising much this year. Read more on Health Check…

30km easy spin

Either am getting fit again, or was tired enough to not push on the ride and just enjoy it. Nice and slow, to flush some lactic acid out of my system. Swung by the bike shop and got them to “fix” my gears. Noone in this town seems able to get it right.

I want a new bicycle

This one in fact. A Silverback Monterey. Full 105 (like my current bike) but is has a 10 speed casette instead of my 9, is lighter and sexy.

I have always wanted a training bike (my current) and a lighter, better, racing bike.

Training for IronMan 70.3

No, not the whole thing; just the cycle. Which is 90km return-trip, and it’s not the pleasant route they could have chosen. Read more on Training for IronMan 70.3…

Daily Dispatch (2009)

Fuck!

94.7 (2008)

Bryan lied to me. He told me that he hadn’t done any training, and that we should look at a 5 hour time to finish this. Since I had recently gotten myself involved with a bad bout of the flu, I was quite keen on the 5 hour thing. I even started to look at the whole ride as a nice training base ride. LOADS of people told me not to ride with the flu (which Anelie started to call a resistant strand of TB), but because it was a base ride, there was no reason not to ride it. Lessons were taught

Yesterday I did the Dispatch 94km race. (aside: my dogs have just figured out how to open the door. I closed them outside, and they are now inside.) Anyway, Saturday I went for registration and happened to stand behind one of the guys who laughed at me. He was bragging to his mate about how easy the “new route” would be; hard going up and FAST coming back. Sunday morning, I made sure I was close to him before the start. He was literally infront of me. I overtook him in the first 200m and never saw him again. I wish I’d kept his race number to point out how much of a little bitch I made out of him. That’ll teach him to laugh at me! Fucker. Read more on Lessons were taught…

They laughed at me

They were right to, of course, but still.

I went cycling this morning in the wee hours of the morning, when it was ridiculously cold. I decided to wear my favourite cycling top. It is one I bought when I was in Jhb for the 94.7, and is a 94.7 cycling top. Red, well designed, beautiful. A ladies top. It took me a while to work this out, but even after I’d worked it out it didn’t really matter – I had bought it, and what am I to do with it; wear it around the house? So to prevent too many people from laughing at me I wear it when I train early in the morning before people go to work or school etc (school kids are particularly nasty, the fuckers!).
